Semy Says… Pride 2024 (and surprises)!!

Hey everyone!! So I’ve been putting off blog writing again; lack of RL energy has been the cause I think but such awesome stuff happened in recent weeks that I need to share it with you all. So here we go…

So we have to start with Pride right? Because it was awesome. The Blacklist Bunker hosted a Second Life Pride party week from the 23rd to the 29th of June with loads of their epic DJs playing sets at a delightful party build up in the clouds. FSG even got two Takeover days where Esmi, Kelis, Geo, and I all got to play a set each (and Moira played on the Monday)!

I rarely talk about real life or how it can be but I’d just like to mention how important pride is. There’s been a huge rise in the popularity of hateful politics in recent months/years; members of the LGBTQAI+ community have ever increasingly been the target of “culture wars”, and the world feels like a less safe space for us all right now. It’s important that we don’t just celebrate who we are but our history of standing together. That’s something which extends from real life into Second Life; our community is stronger as a whole and we need to make sure the rhetoric of bigotry never divides us.

As you can see it was a super fun build and all the parties were a blast. There were so many bright and colourful outfits and it was a delight to party in the clouds with the best bunch of folks in Second Life. On a personal note I really loved getting to play a pride set again – despite being nervous beforehand – and I want to thank London for including me (and all of the FSG DJs). I’m already looking forward to next year 🙂 .

We also announced the winners of our Pride Photo Contest during the Thursday party. Here’s a link to the FSG Discord server where you can find the contest rules and all of the entries but I’ll share the top 3 below:

All of the entries were so lovely but we had to pick three. L$500 went to river, L$750 to Theo, and L$1000 to Jasper prize wise plus Jasper’s pic gets a spot on the wall at the FSG Penthouse!

I’ve got a couple of fun little video clips of Esmi and I that were taken during pride which I’d love to share but I can’t upload them here 😦 . Maybe I can add them to the server later at least. Speaking of which though Kelis made a super sweet video for me and whilst I can’t share it here I can share the link so make sure to go and peek 😛 :

1: Picnic Perfection – it’s summer so we want to see what you’d wear for a delightful day out or to ward off that army of cartoon ants who just stole your hamper.

2: Beach Bums – bikinis, swimwear, budgie smugglers… strut your stuff on our catwalk in your favourite fashion. Extra credit if you do it in Baywatch slow motion!

3: Avatar Alter Ego – show us your alt style; for example: curvy diva, fantastic furry, super fit gym bro, or a femboy style we’d never expect from you. Surprise us.
(This doesn’t have to be the avatar you’re using during the rest of show so you can choose any body/avatar type).

4: Village People – construction worker, bike cop, er leather guy? There are loads more outfit options or show us the outfit you’d have worn to the YMCA or if you were In The Navy?

5: Model’s Choice – literally any outfit you want to show us as long as you’re using the same avatar as categories 1, 2 and 4. Be as creative as you want.

OK we’re nearly there here’s the other news! Firstly Dal is hosting another field trip this weekend. Here’s the info in their own words:

“June didn’t leave much time for field trips but I have some special things planned for July. This Sunday (July 14th) at 3:00 pm SLT I’m going to be hosting a field trip to a fun little art/club sim. It’s hard to describe, you’ll have to see it for yourself. It will be shorter than our normal field trips but fun is fun and I’ve been meaning to show everyone this sim for ages.

If you have any questions or comments send me a DM and I’ll be happy to answer. Hope to see you there. We’ll be meeting at the penthouse as per usual around 2:30 PM SLT.”

Semy Says…

So it’s been a whirlwind month (or few weeks I’ve lost track lol) and so much has happened. I want to end by talking about a topic which is very close to my heart though and that’s Mady.

For those who haven’t met her Mady is one of my very best friends in the whole world – we started FSG together – but she’s been away from Second Life for almost 4 months now. She’s been taking a break and prioritizing real life (which I totally understand) but I miss her terribly and I think all her other friends do too. Her Second Life related social media stuff is empty now (Flickr/Twitter) so I’m honestly not sure if she’s going to return at this point 😦 ; hopefully she does though. if anyone is still in touch with her please send her the link to this blog.

If you’re reading this I just want you to know I love you Mady. Thank you for the very best times in Second Life, for being my friend, for believing in me, and making my crazy ideas happen. With luck I’ll see you again soon 🙂 xoxox
